What's goin' on

Hey blog readers!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. We have been pretty busy and when we finally get home to sleep....that's all we want to do.

Things have been going wonderfully this past week. Monday night we had our first huge dinner party. 12 Greek students showed up in our tiny little apartment. Tony and I cooked a massive amount of sausage alfredo and we had Greek salad on the side. We talked and laughed, played games, guitar, watched magic tricks, sang and danced- basically had a blast with our new friends. The students that already didn't know each other are now hanging out with each other without us! We are now trying to focus on smaller group activities. Last night the girls had a small dinner with a girl named Irene, and the guys ate dinner with a few Greek guys. We're shooting to have small group Bible studies Friday night. Please pray for these to go well!

Today there is a general strike in the city. Metros and busses aren't running today so we are taking the morning to rest a little, pray and spend some personal time with God. Later we are climbing a mountain called Lykkavitos (spelling?) and having a picnic at the top. We'll be safe from anything that might pop up.

Everyone is healthy and well and truly enjoying themselves here in Greece. Thank you for your support! We'll let you know how things go tomorrow!

Great Day All Around

The Gospel was shared in Athens today. Thank all of you for your prayers!

In only 3 days on campus there are SO many good stories- sharing testimonies and the truth of God's word. We have already met over 50 Greek students and have started good, lasting relationships with many of them. Tomorrow we will meet up with some of the friends we've made to hang out off campus. We are planning a dinner party at one of our apartments for tomorrow night. Thinking about what we should cook- if you have any suggestions you can comment below!

Right now we're playing some games in the apartment and just enjoying the night. Good things to come! Keep praying!

First Full Day a Success!

We have finally all made it to Athens safe and sound! Team B came in last night about 2:30am, and Krystal and those of us from Team A met them at the airport. Krystal did this amazing ninja stay awake plan and was able to bring every single person to their respective apartments at like 5am. She rocks. Just sayin'.

Today (after about only 4 hours of sleep each) we toured the different campuses to get a feel for where we'd be walking and what's around in these next 2 weeks. We met a few people along the way and got really excited to go back.

We are currently cooking dinner consisting of: Greek salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, feta cheese, olive oil, salt and pepper), noodles with some red sauce in a packet we found (it's all Greek to us!), and yummy Greek cookies. Still fighting to stay awake, but we'll make it.

Pray for our first day of intentional conversations tomorrow. We'll need your support!

Volcanic Ash Delays Flights

Hello there.

After our very short flight to Houston, Daja, Allison and I went straight to our gate to catch our next flight to London. Upon reaching our gate we noticed a very long line at the check in counter which we joined immediately because...well, if there's a line then we've been trained to stand in it! After about 30 minutes of not moving an inch, I asked the people around us what the line was for and they had no idea. Stepping out of line and asking more questions I realized that our flight had been delayed 5 hours due to the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud and we were actually standing in line for food vouchers. Later we took a train to a bus back to a bus to a train... (Houston's airport isn't small like Lafayette) and finally ate at Chili's with our vouchers.

After some wisdom and insight from Eric, we decided that when we got to London we'd stay the night there and fly out the next day with Team B (Faith, Ben, Tony, Christian, Edward, Shelly, and Blair). My uncle (who lives in London) met us at the gate and brought us home with him where my aunt and cousins were there waiting with a wonderful warm dinner! My aunt, Daja and I went for a walk and Allison went straight to bed. Headed out in the morning for Athens!

Team B (by my time) should have left about an hour ago, to land about now in Houston. Not sure how there connecting flight will go but I will certainly keep you updated! Going to try to get some sleep now.

Day 1, Team A

Just posting to see if this thing works. Never done this before. Team A: Me (kelsey), Allison, and Daja are departing at 3:50pm with Continental. We should get to Greece at 5:30pm their time Monday (10:30am our time). Team B: Faith, Ben, Shelly, Tony, Blair, Christian, Edward depart Monday at 3:30 with Continental. They get to Greece 5:30pm Tuesday evening Greek time.

Well, signing off. Pray for safe flights and quick jetlag recovery- We're ready to get to work!
